Vinayaka Missions Medical College is situated in the picturesque views of Bay of Bengal. This institution was established in the year 1996 by our Former Chairman, (Late) Dr.A.Shanmugasundaram, a noble Philanthropist and Educationist of extraordinary vision in the field of education who is the founder of Vinayaka Missions University belonging to the Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal Medical Educational & Charitable Trust.

Being an integral member of the healthcare team responsible for the outcomes associated with the medication use process Contributing to and accepting responsibility for optimal therapeutic outcomes including promoting wellness Fostering an environment that promotes the safe, efficacious, and cost-effective use of medications The department of pharmacology is primarily a teaching department and teachers Pharmacology to II MBBS, II B.Sc Nursing and other PG students. The department is equipped with 2 labs, A/c lecture halls equipped with LCD projector and audio visual aids, demonstration hall, departmental library and museum containing all the relevant drugs specimens, herbal specimens and history of medicine.
Prescription analysis of patients with alcoholic liver disease, of drugs in dermatology department in the college hospital, doctors knowledge on pharmacovigilance, prescription trends in Bronchial asthma, a general analaysis of various tertiary hospitals and prescription analysis of antimicrobials in ICUs. ICMR short term studentship is granted everyyear. The department has published more than 17 papers in the last five years.
