OVER VIEW
The department of pathology is involved in training medical and para-medical students of the Under graduates(MBBS). The department provides diagnostic services to the out-patients and in patients of VMCH hospital, and the hospitals and nursing homes in and around Karaikal.
The pathology department has adequate experienced faculty members to cater to the teaching and providing diagnostic services, supported by technical and non-teaching staff.The student laboratories have infrastructure facilities as per MCI norms and are well equipped to train the medical and para-medical students in pathology. The museum has more than 1000 mounted specimens for the students to study the morbid anatomy.
The diagnostic services include histopathology, Fine needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC). Exfoliative cytology, hematology and clinical pathology. The laboratories are equipped with mandatory, most modern equipments and instruments.
A blood bank with adequate infrastructure facilities and mandatory equipment like blood bank refrigerator, refrigerated centrifuge, platelet agitator, deep freezers (-40 and 80 C) etc., are available. Whole blood and components are functioning under the department of pathology in this blood bank. The blood bank holds a valid license for preparation of whole blood and components, and caters to the needs of the patients attending the VMMC hospital.
