PHYSICAL EDUCATION UNIT

The Department of Physical Education of Vinayaka Missions Medical College, Karaikal has the opportunity of shaping the minds of the students and strengthening of the body themselves. Physical Education is the systematic instruction in sports, exercises, and hygiene given as part of a school or college program. Physical fitness is especially important for young adolescents ages twelve to twenty-five. The benefits of physical exercise in humans far outweigh the harmful effects associated with exercise. Physical activity can contribute to a child’s wellness by keeping them fit and healthy. Physical activity will also result in an increase of lean muscle mass; promote weight maintenance, increased flexibility, and a generally stronger fit individual. Students need opportunities to be physically active and access to healthy foods in order to grow, learn, and thrive; whereas, good health fosters student attendance and education.

A prescription of physical activity has been known to delay the onset or prevention of many chronic diseases. Physical education programs involve students to participate themselves in activities that challenge the mind of the students. Physical fitness is important for people of all ages. Sport is commonly used to describe a physical activity that has a competitive element, whether played by a professional or a keen enthusiast. Sports help to build the participants mental, physical, and emotional awareness. An improvement in heart function, lower blood pressure and improve functional capacity is noticed after just a few weeks of exercising.  ll students those who are interested Vinayaka Missions Medical College, Karaikal will be offered extracurricular physical activity programs, such as physical activity clubs or competitive sports programs both intramural and extramural. Vinayaka Missions Medical College, Karaikal will offer a range of activities that meet the needs, interests and abilities of all students, including boys, girls, and students with special health-care needs.

Completed his Masters Degree at Karnatak University, Dharwad & completed his M.Phil from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore & from past 18 years the department is been looked after by Mr. Johnson Raj Ramesh.
