Department of Ophthalmology | Overview

It has both UGs and PGs for whom regular classes (theory and clinicals) are taken. Operations are done under operating microscope, in which PGs are given training.  IOL is implanted for all cataract cases.School screening and eye camps are out reach programmes.  Soon eye bank is to be started. The departments has many modern instruments such as scan, autorefractometer, field analyzer and keretometry.

Our Mission

  • The mission of the Department of Ophthalmology is to provide, promote and to advance patient eye care in an academic environment by supporting and stimulating excellence in teaching and research.

Department Objectives
1. Knowledge
The student should have knowledge of:

  • Common Eye problems
  • management of  ophthalmic emergencies
  • ophthalmic  side effects of commonly used drugs
  • magnitude of blindness in India and its main causes;
  • Blindness control programs and its implementation
  • The eye bank.

2. Skills
The student should be able to:

  • diagnose and treat common eye problems
  • do visual acuity testing, examination of eye, tonometry, confrontation perimetry, direct ophthalmoscopy
  • assist/observe therapeutic procedures
  • to motivate for surgery in cataract and for eye donation.

3. Integration
An integrated approach towards other disciplines especially neurosciences, Otorhino-laryngology, General Surgery and Medicine
