International Yoga Day, also known as International Day of Yoga, is a day to celebrate the Indian practice of yoga and to raise awareness about its importance. This day is celebrated since 2014 and has been recognized by the UN General Assembly as an International Day of Recognition. The theme for International Yoga Day in 2022 is ‘Yoga for Humanity’, which is intended at uplift the physical, mental, and emotional state of people. The theme was selected with the aim to inspire the yoga community for global development. This year the theme has been decided to keep in mind the important role that yoga has been playing in dealing with COVID-19. Involving yourself in Yoga not only benefits the mind and body but also instills love and compassion towards one another. Our Prof.Dr.G.Vijayakumar Nair, Vice Principal inaugurated the Yoga camp along with Dr.Srinivasa, Professor & Head, Department of Paediatrics & Dr.Gnanamani, Associate Professor & NSS Coordinator of VMMC. Keeping up with the spirits of the nation in celebrating the Yoga Day and as per the UGC, NMC and State NSS cell guidelines, Vinayaka Mission’s Medical College, Karaikal organized a Special Yoga Camp from 12th June, 2022 to 21st June, 2022 at our Yoga hall (Old library hall). More than 200 participants including Faculty, staff members, Interns and Students of our Institution participated the camp with full enthusiasm to celebrate the practice of yoga and also encourage others to make yoga a part of their everyday life. Honourable Prime Minister's live speech was projected on screen on the day of the event. The event concluded with refreshment to the participants followed by National Anthem.
