Every year at Vinayaka Mission's Medical College, Karaikal World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated from 1st August to 7th August, while the World Health Assembly emphasize to increase the global rate of breastfeeding. In line with this and to create awareness, promote and sustain exclusive breastfeeding, especially for infants health and survival. Over 165 Members have attended the event held at New Lecture Theatre at our New Academic Building. Pediatricians, Obstetricians, Interns including Undergraduate and Postgraduate students of our Institution have attended the Workshop. We encourage mothers to breastfeed babies for six months exclusively and with complimentary foods for up to two years and beyond. The Main objective of World Breastfeeding Week Celebration is to encourage parents to adopt breastfeeding, to create awareness among parents about breastfeeding. The theme for World Breastfeeding Week 2022 by WABA( World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action) is ‘Step up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support’ – seeks to involve governments, communities, and individuals to raise awareness about a sustainable breastfeeding environment. Our Professor Dr.Pagadapally Srinivasa, Dean Dr.G.Ambujam has inaugurated the Workshop along with Medical Superintendent, Resident Medical Officer and various Heads of Departments of OBG and General Medicine. A General Public Awareness programme was organized in our Hospital Out Patient Department and Paediatrics In Patients. A Special Camp was also organized by our Paediatrics Department.
