Department of Biochemistry had conducted a CME cum Workshop, “VIN BIO GENE-TECH-2022” on May 14th , in the Lecture hall, VMMC&H, Karaikal, with the heavenly blessings of Hon’ble Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram, Founder Chancellor VMRF-DU, with the benevolence of Hon’ble Mrs. Annapoorni Shanmugasundaram, and with guidance of Hon’ble Mr. N.V. Chandrasekhar, Vice President, VMRF-DU and Hon’ble Mrs. Arunadevi Chandrasekhar, Trustee, VMRF-DU. After registration of the participants, the event began with ‘Thamizh Thaai Vaazhththu’ and lighting of Kuthuvilaku by the dignitaries. Welcome address was given by Dr. T.Thangapanneer Selvam, Professor & HOD, Department of Biochemistry. A first audiovisual projection, about the Department of Biochemistry was displayed. Dr. G. Ambujam, M.S, FICS, FAES, Dean, VMMC & H, gave the presidential address. Inaugural address was given by Dr. Vijayakumar Nair, M.D, Vice Principal, VMMC & H. The dignitaries were felicitated by the Faculty of the Department of Biochemistry and the speakers, who are alumni of VMMC & H, were also felicitated by Alumni Association of VMMC & H, Karaikal. Biochemistry practical manual prepared by Dr. V.Shanmugapriya and Dr. S. Lakshmiprabha was released by Dr. G. Ambujam, M.S, FICS, FAES, Dean, VMMC & H. Also, Compact Disc containing the contents of lectures given by speakers was released. A second audio visual on ‘Chronology of Inventions in Molecular Techniques’, was displayed, followed by introduction of the first speaker, Dr. Suresh, M.D, by Dr.J.Jaiprabu, M.D, Professor, Department of Biochemistry. Dr. Suresh, M.D., Professor & Vice Principal, Thiruvanamalai Medical College gave an eloquent lecture on “Genetic Disorders – A Biochemical View”. Dr. V.Shanmugapriya, M.D, Professor, Department of Biochemistry, introduced the second speaker, Dr. K.A. Arul Senghor, M.D, PhD, Professor, Department of Biochemistry, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Kattankulathur. The second lecture was on “Molecular Technique – A Biochemical Approach”. Prizes were distributed to the winners of “Seminar presentation on Enzymes” by First MBBS students (2021-22 batch) and for ‘Model making in Biochemistry” for department museum by Second MBBs students (2020-21 batch) and B.Sc Nursing students. Dr. P. Jayakala, M.D, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, VMMC & H, delivered vote of thanks. The morning session ended with National Anthem followed by lunch. The afternoon session comprised of a hands-on workshop on Molecular techniques, was conducted in Central Research Lab, VMMC & H. The event was conducted with the Guidance of Dr. R. Arunaghiri, M.Sc, PhD, Research Advisor. Dr. D. Karthikeyan, M.Sc, PhD, Research Coordinator, VMMC & H, gave the introduction to workshop. Workshop proceedings were conducted by Dr. B. Jeyakumar, M.Sc, PhD and Dr. K. Suganya, M.Sc, PhD, Research Associates, VMMC & H. Isolation of, DNA from whole blood, Progin gene amplification by PCR, DNA fragments separation by Agarose gel electrophoresis, Gel documentation, and result interpretation were done by the participants. Certificates were distributed by Dr. G. Ambujam, M.S, FICS, FAES, Dean; VMMC & H. The even ended with vote of thanks delivered by Dr. S. Lakshmiprabha, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, VMMC & H.
